The tie of round nineteen saw the visit of third placed Catalans Dragons to the Halliwell-Jones to take on fourth placed Warrington Wolves. A home win would see the Wolves up to a third, but if the Dragons could get the two points then they'd be top of the pile, ahead of Hulls game on Sunday.

Warrington were looking for the double after a 30-20 win in Perpignan earlier in the year and with the Dragons missing a few first teamers, the bookies had the Wolves as the favourites.

The opening points went the way of Catalans when Pat Richards kicked a penalty from close to the Wolves sticks after Ashton Sims had been penalised for a high tackle on Jason Baitieri.

But within a couple of minutes Chris Sandow went through a gap, broke down the centre of the field and passed outside to Ryan Atkins who went twenty metres to score under the sticks. Kurt Gidley added the extra two for 6-2 with eleven minutes on the clock.

On fourteen the Dragons got their first four pointer after Matty Russell had spilled the ball near his own line and Julian Bousquet took a short pass to jink under the sticks giving Richards another easy conversion for 8-6.

On sixteen it was becoming a try fest when Kevin Penny went down the left wing after Lucas Albert had knocked-on the kick-off. Gidley slipped the conversion attempt wide of the sticks.

On twenty-eight the Dragons were back in front when a chasing Fouad Yaha grounded a Albert chip over the top to dive and ground. Richards converted from wide for 14-10 in a game which was increasingly entertaining. Richards added another penalty five minutes before the interval for 16-10 but a minute later Tony Gigot was sin-binned for a dangerous tackle, reducing the visitors to twelve men.

A superb individual try from Brad Dwyer sparked the second half to life on forty-three when he dummied three times, bust the line and stretched out an arm to ground. Gidley added the two to tie the scores at 6-16.

Another Catalans penalty for Richards on forty-five to edge his side back into the lead as Tony Gigot returned from the sin-bin.

On fifty, Matty Russell looked to have scored a spectacular try by the right corner flag when he took a Stefan Ratchford pass but despite sending the effort to the video referee as a TRY, the slow motion showed that Russell dropped the ball and the score was denied.

On sixty-six the Dragons appeared to have scored a sensational length of the field try, but when the referee went for video confirmation it was clear that right back downfield, Eloi Pelissier took out Gidley as he put in an open play kick. Gidley kicked the resulting penalty to level the scores at 18-18, rather than what should have been an eight point Dragons lead if Pelissier had kept his cool.

On seventy-two a Warrington effort was ruled out by the video referee but in doing so he adjudged a ball steal, and Kurt Gidley's penalty edged his side in front by 20-18.

The closing eight minutes were frantic, with errors from both sides, but the Wolves managed to hold on for a crucial win which keeps them in touch with the top of the table and lifts them above the Dragons into third. It was an intriguing game, not executed to the highest of technical levels, but with plenty of commitment and blood and guts.
