| i work in bradford so beating them gives me local bragging rights as i am in the minority. also watching bradford lose is second only to watching leeds win, when it happens in the same game perfection where ever it is being played

| Beating Bradford means no more than beating any other team.
Why?
Because they've rarely ever been Leeds fiercest rivals.
Nor are they the old enemy - historically, the rivalry between Leeds/Wakefield, Leeds/Castleford and Leeds/Hunslet has been far more significant.
It's not a proper local derby fixture. It's the brainchild of Super League marketing and hype, it's significance apportioned and reinforced by Sky Sports, Eddie & Stevo, and a couple of Super League era CEO's who didn't get along personally and preferred to waste time meeting up frequently in court in order to boost their own ego's.
It has no historical significance like other bona fide derby fixtures do, eg, Wigan V Saints, Hull V Hull KR.
The fixture only works and pulls in the big attendances under two conditions...
1) Bradford have to be dominant and successful.
2) Leeds are not but desperate to be so.
Anyone who considers Leeds V Bradford as a derby game between two fiercest of rivals are clearly those who have been weaned on Super League. They possess little to no knowledge or historical perspective.
No 'Loiner' worth his or her salt would regard Leeds & Bradford as the most important fixtures on the calendar. That's the ted domain of the archetypal 'Rhinos' fan and young children who know no better.

| It probably means more to them than it does us these days. Much like it meant more to us when we were aspiring to their success for years. It was massive for me beating them in those days, because that was as good as it got for us. When the big one came in 2004 though it was particularly sweet.
These days it doesn't excite me any more than any other match. Now we've tasted real success, it means more to beat the teams around us. When Bradford become challengers again, it'll mean something.

Surely that's far too reasonable and sensible a summation for here?

I could come up with some witty return like ‘ I’m so glad to be a child of super league instead of the cynical oldies’.
But for the good of the game, please print the quote above Christopher Irvine.
