It stinks to me of, we have no trust in the ref's to do there job..

Not a healthy view, as an action from the team causes a re action from the official... And the penalty count suddenly looks lop sided...

oh and yes I agree the Smith one is gauling..

But look at the sinfield one earlier in the game..

How could he get his arm free..?

Yet Tompkins(I think?) never struck out he trusted the ref to do his job... got the penalty...

Your Discipline is abit poor of late - and against wigan it proved to be a conributing factor in your defeat, aswell as the goons playing well.

Have you seen an instance where it should have been called since?



I said at the time we might not see another instance this season and so far I haven't and this despite some posters (such as DISA) saying there were ones missed in every game.

Not in profesional rugby, or tele, or at headingley..

But I give credit to smith for seeing it at all...

The real question you should ask is, how many times should that call have been made in the season so far and how many times as it actually been then made.....

If it very rarely happens then it'll equally be very rarely penalised.

I would guess that its more to do with a ref not being certain enough in most instances to rule a no try, or give a pen, when its one of the last of several things he has to look for at the breakdown. With the luxury of the VR, if the ref has a feeling about it he can ask to check.

But you're still missing the point. The circumstance of a player being stood offside at a play the ball and being involved in the next play is extremely rare.

I said at the time it possibly wouldn't happen again this season whether the referee detects it or not.

Not sure. I don't think I would notice it if the ref didn't ping it. Not sure the ref would notice it as he has to patrol the 10m, the ruck, the play the ball.



There are also a number of occassions when it is possible, such as from breaks on the play after a kick return,

Besides which as a rule it hardly ever happens anyway. The Webb one at Odsal could yet prove to be unique for this season.

The point I was in a round about way making was, well done to smith for seeing it, however don't miss the next one.

And the other thing you asked was quite obviously about that penalty too.

If it never happens again they'll be no need to award the penalty.



No-one has yet been able to point to another instance of it happening this season and that despite some stating that it happens every week when we were originally discussing the incident at Easter.
