I think a good number of the "claddinggate" complaints were down to the stadium [u looking[/u unfinished and so from an aesthetic point of view the semi-permiable cladding will do the job nicely.
Also, as is stated in the design & access statement of the planning application for the new cladding, a "full sheet" cladding solution would not have been possible due to the structure not being able to support the increased wind resistance it would generate. Effectively, solid cladding would have acted like a sail and caught all the wind and place excessive stress on the stadium structure which would presumably, given severe enough conditions, have tore the stadium to pieces.

| Quote SaintsFan="SaintsFan"I don't understand architects plans at all but when there is northings and eastings, can one assume that there is southings and westings? Or do northings and eastings mean something other than the location of the stands (ie north south east west)? Because, you see, if they ARE related to the stands ...
where's the flippin West Stand cladding?!?!?

From reading the design statement, it would appear that the Club is taking the view that had the concourses remained uncladded, fans would have been exposed to the elements while ambling around the stadium, which is a bit of a bad idea really. I can't quite understand why that didn't occur to whoever designed the stadium in the first place? Still, it looks like Saints are putting it right and hopefully the aesthetic issue and the practical one will be resolved by this fancy sounding holey cladding.
(And I notice that the West Stand is included in the new cladding proposals too!)
