| doesn't appear to be one thread about the match, so i'll throw a new post on..
i've not read through all the threads put there doesn't appear to be too much doom and gloom. we looked like a team who played 4 days ago to me, looked very tired and made silly mistakes. wigan are no better than us, they just handled the conditions better. their two tries came from our silly mistakes, the first as a result of being pushed off a scrum (although o'loughlin was clearly out the scrum before he should have been) and then faasavalu knocking on in our 20. the first try came from meli, then roby missing the ball, and then poor defence to let feka in, the tries were hardly from sweeping passing movements. similarly saints tries came from a kick, and a barge over from 5 yards..
i thought wigan defended well (as did saints) but kept hold of the ball far far better, i think they dropped the ball once in the first half, as opposed to saints who dropped far too much ball. in the second half saints SHOULD have scored, and had plenty chances to do so, dean only had to pass it backwards to meli and he'd have walked in, again (sorry to blame dean again) he should have been able to get the ball down as well on another occasion.
the much billed tomkins - eastmond matchup didn't happen, both did very little, tomkins first kick was excellent, then he preceded to kick it straight down pryce's throat for the rest of the match, he made two breaks at the end, and both times he failed to do anything with them. eastmond struggled to take any grip on the match.
i thought thaler was an absolute disgrace, far too many penalties (on both sides) and killed the game as a spectacle. and missing a few forward passes, graham's to flanno was a mile forward, so much so the scaff even shouted forward
it hurts like hell losing against that shower, but all the talk of winning the last game on good friday isn't a massive issue to me, memories against wigan at knowsley road go much further than 80 minutes today. i also think that should saints win the GF in october today will be forgot, if wigan win the GF, i don't think they'll be thinking too much about today either..
keep the faith, we'll be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

| FFS This must be a first, me agreeing with nearly everything Saddened has to say. Especially about that pedant Thaler ruining what should have been a classic.
We were out-enthused in the first half and our execution in the Goons 20 zone in the second half was not good enough.

| Anyone who doesnt think St Helens dominated that game obviously wasnt watching properly.
That said, and I said in the trolling thread, we lost, wigan won, thats all that matters.

| "Not really. On that evidence Wigan don't have the attacking threat to win SL."
Hold on a minute.. We dont have the attacking threat?! But yet we have put 38 past Crusaders, 32 past KR, 58 past Catalan, 48 past FC, 38 past Cas, 24 past Leeds and 18 past you men.. And to add we have a +182 points difference.. It's not how you beat teams, its the beating of teams and you can only beat the team that is infront of you on the day.. We are top of the league for a reason.

You are top of the league after 9 games. It doesn't matter at all. It's form in the PLAYOFFS that win you SL trophies. You lot are talking like it's already won and how your side is 'superb' and 'dominant'. They were rubbish today, way, way off what a SL winning side needs to be. You put scores on a few sides at home? So what? Huddersfield put a ridiculous scoreline on Wakefield and that doesn't stop them being Huddersfield does it?
If you have scored the most tries in SL and have won the SL trophy in October I'll admit I'm wrong. I suggest you all bookmark this post now so you can all have it in your signatures WHEN, not if, WHEN it happens.

| Quote Saddened!="Saddened!"I thought today saw two very evenly matched sides tough it out under some incredibly pedantic refereeing. Wigan are the new Huddersfield, they base their game on gang tackling and slowing the play the ball. Nothing wrong with it, they look very well coached and their defensive discipline and manipulation of the referee was of a very high standard. Their kicking game is also good. Bar Tompkins though they have zero attacking threat and I can see them going the way of Huddersfield and just lacking that bit of attacking threat you need to win SL.
That has got to go down as a perfect summary of the problems we have under Potter. Two conservative in general play meaning we struggle to be a threat from anywhere outside the 10 and once inside it today our execution was laughable. We had enough field position and possession to win two or three games, never mind one where the opposition only scored 18 points. How many times did we knock on under no pressure on the 2nd or 3rd tackle when camped on their line? And what was with the constant choice of the left hand side of the pitch to attack through? Dean is a solid enough kid, but he's not a danger in an attacking sense as a centre. We've got Matt Gidley on the other wing who did nothing all day but discuss the exchange rate. Wigan's defense is good, but it wasn't that special today, the errors weren't forced, it was just poor execution and a general lack of ambition and ideas. You have to question the inclusion of Dixon, no disespect to the lad I'm sure his time will come but where is Nick Fozzard?
Mr Thaler today ensured a potential classic was dragged down into the RL equivalent of a relegation battle in football. He was so utterly pedantic with numerous penalties for absolutely nothing, yet when he did have some decisions to make with regards to some of the (very) high tackles he bottled them all. He seemed to be oblivious to several blatant high tackles only to then give the side 3 or 4 consecutive penalties for such ridiculously pedantic penalties at the play the ball. His general authority over the game is so poor to, he seems unable to get players to do what he wants. The bit where a Wigan player was staying on the pitch whilst bleeding to give his side a breather was absolutely pathetic from Thaler. As soon as he saw him he should have just blood binned him and got on with it, instead he stood there like a fool waving at him whilst the ever professional Wigan player just bought his side a 5 minute breather.
A potential classic that ended up a dour battle between two sides who were both very poor on the day.'"
I think wigan attack pretty good. When they move the ball wide they look a threat everytime. The movement and dummy running when they move the ball wide is very good.
Maybe potter should watch and learn. They didn't have much field postion in the 2nd half but that was down to good defence by saints and lack of good gp forward but when they did move the ball it was free flowing.
Put it the way, if wigan was camped on our line for 30mins like we was on there line, it would have been a much bigger win for the pies.

| To say Wigan has no attacking threat is quite funny. It was pouring down the entire game, a local derby away from home and we were put on our own line time and time again by giving away penalties in the second half. We are the leagues top points scorers but on Friday our defence won us the game
