Fraid I have to disagree Bulliace. Knaresborough looked great, as did Skipton. I know Harrogate was the finish for stage 1 but it looked superb. I know Keighley isn’t as well off as those places but the town centre didn’t so much as shrug as to just fecklessly not be d.
Poor effort.

| To be fair on Keighley there was a huge crowd down on the dual carriageway for the end of the sprint section, and the mosque on North Street had made the effort to put a massive banner up. But unlike Skipton, and Harrogate most of the shops on North Street are actually empty and derelict, but little effort from the councils to try to make the place look better for it's moment in the global spot light

| It's Keighley, there's only so much they could have done. Besides, other places were doing it. The people of Keighley are dead set against sporting promotional efforts if something even slightly similar has been done somewhere else first.

| Its a problem for Keighley being part of Bradford in the same way for Settle being part of Craven with Skipton as the epicentre. so you get a spend of £1m rebuilding the skipton swimming pool then the next year the £8k revenue funding for Settle Swimming pool (built with public donations) is cut by Craven council. Read the Craven Herald, a baby farts in skipton its headline news, 50 residents get gassed in Settle its one line in the obituaries. Same relationship with London and the north, except theres no Tory wooing of Keighley with money before an election.
But one thing they could not supress is Settle College Womens RL team winning the National School Championships!!!!!

Smaller towns like Leeds, Huddersfield and York?
In Huddersfield they had a French farm in St George's Square, cycle races Round the town centre and light up emley moor mast in the week before it.

In keighley they had anti French slogans and a giant cock painted on road. Not difficult to see why tv chose to take an AD break whilst tour passed through really.

| There was loads of public outrage on Radio Leeds this week from the locals. One woman said she was disgusted at ITV.
Makes a change from them blaming us for them not being allowed into Superleague in 1996.
Maybe the town could have finally found a new broken record?

York - did it go there? - is a city big on tourism, so I'd guess any excuse to maximise that, by setting up an exhibition / attraction, would be just the sort of thing they'd do extremely well.
To be honest, I don't really think these are sticks with which to beat a small - dare I say, without being flamed by Cougar fans - more down at heel town, than the others. A good few of the shops and businesses which 'didn't bother' are actually closed down.
