So have the floods in Australia knocked buildings down? They are going on about a biblical flood and a rebuild on par with the second world war in Western Europe. How? Are there districts they've abandoned or has the water been so powerful it's actually knocked buildings down?

While Brisbane due to its size and being a major economic centre is getting a lot of media attention, flooding has been going on in Queensland (also northern NSW and now hitting Victoria) for three weeks now. To bring a city the size of Brisbane to its knees isn't easy.



In rural areas there have been some pretty horrific stories of the waters coming through and destroying houses and most of the town of Grantham. If you want to hear some heavy stories, read about this town.



I lived in SE Qld for half my life, watching the coverage online is truly heartbreaking. Trying to comprehend the vast areas effected I assume would be hard unless you've been to Australia.



One great thing to come out of this is watching the communities at work, I've had plenty of friends who are effected and hearing the stories coming out of the area of the volunteers and work forces coming into strangers homes to help clean up and bring aid is truly amazing.



I'd like the thank the RFL for their support, this is part of the heart of Australias Rugby League territory that has taken a beating.

Nothing, and actually they haven't promised anything in that press release either, its just a press release, a sort of "What can I tell the newspapers today" sort of story that they get the media studies work experience student to knock up during a coffee break.



So sympathy and some vague suggestion of a bucket collection at Cardiff that might raise enough for some yard brooms and a trolley full of soup tins, but we're thinking of you all Brisbane, yes we are.

Those poor people need more than a few buckets to bail all that water out.
