| So let's get this straight WTID and Scorpions for SL live in the same house?
Likely story ladies. Do you always have to pass the laptop about when wanting to look at the internet and only have one laptop between you?
It is not a choice between having an academy/buying a top class existing rugby league player or Powell. I know there is an academy in place, I've seen their sides play on a few occasions. There are run of the mill acadamies, good academies and excellent academies. My point was the money could be used to make the academy a lot better and more professional than it currently is.
We all know that you would prefer to spend money on a union convert than invest it in youth or a top class existing league player. I feel the opposite. Can we leave it now as you , whichever one you're logged in as now, are boring me.

| Quote Ashulster="Ashulster"Anyway...
I fully believe that Powell comnig to league and playing for Wales alongside Thomas would be massive for the relatively young Welsh squad of Harris'. It would be a big boast for those guys to play alongside big union internationals who they have probably seen on TV all their lives and might help them to step up, beat France and qualify for the 4 Nations.
It's not just about Crusaders when these guys are mentioned for a code switch, it's about Wales.'"
To be fair if the introduction to rugby league of Gareth Thomas hasn't achieved this then I can't see Andy '14 Wales caps' Powell doing it to be honest. Thomas played 100 or so games for Wales and is recognised by all in Wales even those outside of the game. A lot less than can be said for Powell.

The same amount of money will be spent on the academy regardless as to whether powell is signed or not
How can the academy be improved?
[iBy having a wider selection of young players to pick from to play for the academy[/i
How can this be achieved?
[iBy more young people in the area playing rugby league, and wanting to play for the Crusaders instead of wanting to play for the union clubs.[/i
How can this be achieved?
[iA successful team, media coverage, high profile signings(such as Thomas and Powell)[/i

| I'm with the troll on this one to be fair, the club operates a salary cap and wouldn't be paying Powell over the odds, money is set aside for youth development and I think the RFL also subsidise this with development officers for Wales etc, a few Union converts will show that RL is a good option and added to that they are not bad players either on the field.

| Even if it was a choice between a top class player or Powell I would pick the top class player.
I see the merits of bringing him into the international set up but from Crusaders point of view I just can't see it I'm afraid.

Basically. Crusaders are a new club, union is big in Wales. Signing union players will increase interest in RL and the Crusaders.

Or upset the union fans. Powell's a good player but he is never going to be a Welsh Legend in either code.
