They do this as the clubs (or any merchant) are required to give a certain amount of any transaction to the card issuers (typically 1%)



It's a bit naughty passing this on to the consumers tho, Basically the club are maximising profit and reducing costs. If you take the personal aspect out of it, I'm sure you would all do the same in their shoes, however, as this is a fan based sport, you think they'd be a little fairer

It's bloody con and they know that people will pay it although I suppose it's good business sense if you can squeeze a extra couple of quid out of people here and there all adds up I suppose

They dont operate this charge if your are buying merchandise in either of the club shops though
