Saints and Leeds are paying the price for not investing in their youth system so while their best players got old they had nobody coming through to replace them. These clubs should have followed the Warrington model of youth development, they can't rely on being able to pick up a Scully or Harris from us any more.

Our problem is more one of coaching. Since Daniel Anderson left, Saints have had a string of coaches that were ill suited to the role. Had Saints appointed a Tony Smith or Nathan Brown when Anderson went home, we wouldn't be where we are now. The board has been focused on getting the stadium built so have clocked off with regards to the squad development. I'd expect to see at least 5 in and 5 out at Saints every year for the next two or three years, starting this year. Shenton, Flannery, Meli, Dixon and Maggenis look likely to leave this season with potentially Turner, Manu, new stand off, new prop and new second rower (From Warrington

) coming in. Key thing is getting Wellens out of the fullback position and Hohaia out of the halves, both decisions Brown will need to make if Saints are to be competitive again.

The saints "coach" was wandering round like a lost soul whilst Wellens was giving the team talk at Half Time. Player power at this club apparently. Will the players do the same to their new coach next year if they dont approve of him.........

The problem with Saints, is heaping all the organisation and playmaking onto Lomax, without a snifter of support for him.

The Saints pack is pitiful. Time and again yesterday they were absent when needing to make the hard yards. No platform or field position for the backs to play.

It doesn't matter what backs you have if your forwards are on the back foot all the time. Wigan have bullied Saints forwards in every game this season.

But don't mock just yet, as it may come back and bite us.

The pack weren't too hot yesterday, but in general it's not the pack that is at fault. In the previous defeats to Wigan we spent tens of sets in their 20 but couldn't convert. The LP game in particular we had enough possession, territory and field position to win several games. We're just not a threat anymore so never turn territory into points like we used to.

Could Gaskell become the new full back? Could he play the Slater/Tomkins/Ratchford/Eden type role? Where is he anyway?
