It's all to do with the amount of times certain balls have and haven't been drawn and the laws of probability that dictate which should be drawn. He's probably got a team who have done research on every single lottery draw and then worked out patterns and such-like and they have come up with 5 numbers that should be drawn in accordance with the laws of probability.
Or, so I've been told.

it's probability and maths, as rugbychick says, he's a ridiculously intelligent bloke and if you've read any of his books you can pick up on the logic and huge effort that takes place in some of his work.
Rather than people accusing him of being a fraud, i'd be more inclined to be suggest the lottery is fixed.

Also, it was the obvious guess.
Derren Brown doesn't do things that others can do, or guess very easily. |

I can't see it being probability and maths Catsmith. I'm sure there are better mathematicians out there who would have clocked onto this a long time ago if it were actually possible to predict the lottery numbers.
Saying you can predict the lottery numbers is like saying you can predict what number a roulette wheel will land on. Every ball has exactly the same chance of coming out as the next.
It's going to be a trick but I'm not sure what.
