totally agree team selection was poor last night, what game plan? 2 of the poorest wingers in super league under the high ball and we didnt utilise it enough when we did it paid off with tries, think briers would of made a difference, it may not be pretty rugby but it would pay off with the wet conditions aswell

| We did try to go for the wingers with high kicks; we just didn't execute it very well.

Well it was either:
A) game-plan was wrong
B) the players failed to execute the game-plan

Bridge from the bench was strange. We broke up King & Atkins which had looked so potent last week, it perplexed me a tad if i'm honest. It was a straight Riley/Mathers scenario walking into the ground for me, then I realised what was happening.
Anyhow, he'll get many, many more right than wrong, so there's no Che bashing from me.

Absolutely agree. Even the couple of kicks where we did get repeat sets or tackled them into touch were crap mis-kicks.
Potter highlighted the kicking game was the difference, and he was spot on. Not just the goals, but all round. Personally, with either Briers or Clarke steering the ship last night, I think we would have been in far better shape on the 5th tackle.

| Thing is .. last night Saints made us look ordinary by the way they played. They slowed us right down in attack & played really well off the ruck as always & we couldn't live with their speed coming at us. We had so much ball 10m from their line and never did I feel that we looked like scoring.
Saints are a bloody big team & we couldn't boss them about as we have done with everyone else we've played this year.
Some of the team selection was strange. I'd have not broken king & atkins up unless we3 were planning to let king mark Gidley as he's played opposite him more. But we didn't.
But it's already been said, Smith will get more right than he gets wrong.
One nagging doubt in my mind though ... would Riley have stopped Eastmond for that first try if he'd been full back. That would have changed the game.

But Saints are an excellent team. It was 4 tries each, so if they made us look ordinary, we made them look ordinary.

That is fair comment, it was a very ordinary game after that hype. If were a Wigoon fan now I would be feeling pretty smug.

It's something Foz commented on when we were watching the highlights of last week's Saints game. Eastmond regularly ducks under the tacklers and makes the break leading to a try more often than not. Low and behold that's exactly what the first try came from. I'm just glad we seemed to have a better hold on that aspect of his game for the rest of the night or the score could have been higher.

| People sometimes underestimate the small guys, but i think most people know Eastmonds game he did the same thing last season at HJ. Many a good player have been vertically challenged. Look at leeds a few seasons back i'd have had Burrows over McDonald all day long.

| I think what Smith was trying to do with King and Atkins was to have just as much threat on both sides of the pitch, but for me we should of kept them together and really tested Saints on that side but its easy to say we should of done this [iafter[/i the game.
