| Quote ninearches="ninearches"What puzzles me about that incident is how Leeds got a scrum out of it...the ref was clearly heard talking to the VR about a mistake being made as to whose scrum it was when in the first instance the scrum was given to Warrington then given to Leeds. As we know the tackle was deemed to be fair by the VR, so if there was no offside, according to the VR, & no Leeds knock on it was a perfectly good try.'"
Hodgson knocks on 1st

| How can Hodgeson losing the ball backwards be a knock on and TBF Leuluai knocked it out and it went forwards off him Delaney was offside so it's a no brainer penalty for offside or reaping the ball in a two man tackle ! Which ever way u look at it , it wasn't a Leeds scrum !

Hahaha after watching it again I was thinking Why on earth has that not been mentioned on here, there was absolutely nothing wrong with it and had we gone 12 - 0 up that early it could have become a blowout scoreline.

It was the correct decision....Hodgson lost the ball during the impact of the challenge, it was not a steal. The laws of the game state it is upto the ball carrier to carry the ball securely into the tackle, Hodgson didn't....Leuluai did knock on once the ball was loose, so the offside didn't even come into it.
I suppose you could be ultra-picky and say Hodgson lost it backwards, meaning it should have been a Wire scrum, but to be fair, in a situation like that, a ball carrier losing the ball will more often than not be judged to have knocked on....Hodgson had his lights knocked out, so it wasn't really a knock on, more his unconscious body releasing the ball involuntarily.

Watching it again this morning the ball goes back first and then bounces forward, so I think it should have been given. It should have been sent to the video ref for a check anyway.
We should have received a not square penalty a few minutes from half time, so a penalty goal there at least. As it was Leeds went down field and then got a 2 pointer.
We'll just let Mr Grumpy be bitter about that 1 definite no try.

| Hodgson knocked on, which was complete when it hit Leulai. Leulai knocked it forward and Delaney was in front of him when he did. Never a try in a million years and correct decision was made.

Spot on - my view exactly.
Fair play to Hodge for saying it was a perfectly legal challenge.

Wow hodgeson Knocked on it was not ripped out it was a tremendous hit there is then a second knock on and delaney picks the ball up runs and puts ball over the line.
The VR is required sees what happens first offence hodgeson knock on. Now as leeds had just scored or without VR looked like they had surely they were the attacking team no?

I think 'scrum defence' was given since Leeds were the defending side prior to the first knock on by The Hodge, which is what the call was made on and what set off the 'chain of events'. The fact that Leeds came out on the attack is irrelevant, that is what happens with most calls like this; a team goes from defence to attack or vice-versa as a result of an incident that needs to be looked at.
