The only way to maintain or actually increase a fan base is to constantly bring in new supporters , just begging old ones to come back is doomed to failure as all it will do is accentuate even further the reasons they stopped going in the 1 st place , nobody likes being ' Told ' what to do



A business has to provide a product or service to survive , the quality and/or price of that product/service is the only benchmark people will consider when deciding to purchase



Improve the product and enough people will pay to attend matches removing the need for any more begging plea's

i see robin van persie has done an advert at the leigh sports village.just a long shot but how about inviting the man utd team to a game (i hear a lot of them watch rugby league).promote the game in the paper and ask them to sign autographs for the kids at half time or do a draw for a dozen kids to have a penalty shoot out or something along them lines.a lot of kids have never been to the sports village and may want to come again.i know its the wrong shape ball game but how many extra could that bring through the turnstiles.

Its called ' Direct ' marketing , and it works better than ' indirect ' marketing , which is what the club does , indirect marketing is the lazy way , and quite often it can cost a lot more than the direct route



I also note the ' Branding ' issue being mentioned , once again , yes it is a good thing , providing your ' brand ' has value , but as Robbie Paul was once heard to state , everybody knows about the Leigh brand , but it has no value , so improve the brand , or dont bother
