| Quote Surreyben="Surreyben"Agree with all those who claim the attendance was around 3,000. No way was it 1,700.'"
It's not easy to gauge this sort of thing when only one side of the ground is open. (Well, yes one end was open but I doubt many on this board were in there.) I sat at one end when we kicked one way in the first half, and moved to the other end when we kicked the other way in the second half. At least three out of every four seats in the end blocks were vacant, so unless the centre blocks were literally full up (and as I strolled in front of the stand at kick off time a lot of the seats in the front rows were almost empty) it seems unliikely the overall crowd was much above 2,000. I don't revel in "I told you so" comments about small crowds, but to my eyes the crowd looked pretty small!
Hopefully close games and wins will help to get the crowd figures on an upward roll.

| Listened to the 2nd half commentary on BBC London via my virgin box here in Northampton.
Now if there was only 1700+ in the ground them was making a lotta fuss rather loudly.
That or those pinko, yoghurt knitting, lentil eating, sandal wearing, graundindud reading liberals @ Auntie have a way of making a crowd sound larger than it really is.

| Quote Bikefan="Bikefan"A very gritty Quins performance - and it hasn't been often you could put those words in the same sentence! A very enjoyable game, but I think most people were too cold to cheer too loudly.
Thought other good signs included (all mentioned by others before):
(i) finally, a good kicking game! Consistently turning their fullback around, good job by Gale.
(ii) Burnett seems an elusive runner, and can get offloads away
(iii) O'Callaghan was taking the high balls well generally, can't have been easy with the greasy ball yesterday (there was one near the end which was allowed to bounce when there were around 10 players around it, think they were all knackered)
(iv) nice tight defence on our own line - can't ask for more (except for not dropping it on the first tackle 5m out after having done all the hard work!)
Re Sammut, he does unexpected things and creates uncertainty in the other side with ball in hand - I'd love to have someone like him, lazy or not!'"
Kicking game was distinctly better from Gale than Chad IMO.

| Lamont had a stand out game - only 1 mistake in the 4 minutes he played. Those are the types of games we have thrown away previously so its good to see us winning one. Agree that Crusaders didn't seem to offer too much - thought both sides played the conditions quite well - bit like the Cas match the night before. Not sure where this result leaves Salford considering Crusaders beat them very easily. Pity the poor Catalans as I think its going to be a very long season for them - what went wrong you have to ask. So that leaves Catalans and Salford as the weakest - perhaps Wakefield next then us... ot maybe we will go to Headingly and get 2 points. Hull haven't impressed but I am sure they have the class to get into 7th or 8th. I would be a bit worried if I was a Bulls supporter. Should know more after the Easter programme.

I don't.
From what I have seen (which I admit is very little) on highlights shows, the web etc, we look pretty "tight" defensively although turnstyle tony may be a problem again this season. Leeds have had a lucky escape v Bradford and have beaten an out of sorts FC...yes they looked good, but as I say, FC look like they are again going to flatter to deceive......we have won 2 games I believe we had to win and won them ugly. I don't see this as an open game....less than 30 points scored in total and a 7 point margin.
Come on Quins RL....hold them for 40 minutes and the leeds fans will get on their backs!!!

Admittedly I only saw the first 40 of friday night's game, but I wasn't scared by what I saw. After Brent Webb went off, Leeds starting running around like headless chickens, looking panicked, trying to offload spectacularly every second tackle. The ball went to ground, both forwards and backwards, so many times I lost count. In other words, they looked just like we did for 3/4 of last season under Brian "we didn't do alot wrong, apart from complete 27% of our sets" McDermott.
Its just that Hull were worse. Jones-Bishop just gets better though - quality player.
