| Most Saints fans were dignified in their losing and probably able to see that, on the day, they lost to a better team.
There was no controversy - they lost and Wigan deserved to win.
As to most Wire fans, they always have and always will be @rseholes.
That comes from, until two recent successes, of [ualways[/u living in the shadows of Wigan, Saints and Widnes.

| Iv posted on the Saints board that the Saints fans were great in defeat yesterday, loads wishing us luck at Wembley and having fun banter with us after the game. The very reason why I prefer them to Wire.

| Quote SaintsFan="SaintsFan"I think you might have this wrong, although I can't speak for all Saints fans obviously. What we at the match saw yesterday were two things: some very worried Wigan fans (like Saints fans, you go quiet when you're worried) and a Saints team that just lacked the cutting edge. We missed a halfback who could kick (the only way we would have overcome your defence in the first half). With the exception of the Stobart match, when we were trounced in every aspect of the game, Saints fans have been able to come away from our matches against Wigan knowing that we were just a bit off. 75-0 was great fun and we made the most of it while it lasted. But that isn't the only thing that rivalry is about. It's about believing that we can 'do you' next time out, and Saints have shown their fans just enough to know that that is a possibility. And I believe Wigan fans know that too. That makes for a quality rivalry (but not a fun one!).
This.
Banter in the ground and on here, but mutual respect. Dire need to learn some of this. I didn't enjoy one minute of yesterday until the final whistle and that show's how worried I get when we play. Especially in big games. Well done to your fans who the vast majority stayed at the end. Respect.
One last thing though:
Wemberley wemberley we're the famous Wigan rugby and we're going to wemberley

Oh, and in recent times anyway, we have won a whole lot more than Wigan!'"
Good Post. I've really enjoyed the banter with Saints fans in the last few years (it just seems to have become so much more enjoyable) and it was great yesterday to be able to mix with opposing fans, discuss the match and receive congratulations and well wishes, it's what distinguishes (most of) us from football fans and makes RL a better sport.

| Quote Wigan Peer="Wigan Peer"They have been gracious, or has our view of them just been tempered by some of the kn0bhead Dire fans who choose to live on this board.'"
Bit of both IMO.
Saints fans compare very favourably to Wire fans, who have always been let down by a larger-than-average yob element, and who are still a bit new to following a top side, and, surprisingly, Leeds, where, taking their cue from their chairman, they seem unable to handle the realisation that they are not as good as they thought they were.

| Posted something on the wire board last week about how the game brings out the hatred for 80 minutes but apart from that there is a clear mutual respect between both clubs and sets of supporters.
As usual on there, I was shot down.. their main ammunition being 'its not a big rivalry because you both like eachother' etc...
I think when Warrington or both Hull clubs hear 'rivalry' they automatically think hatred, baiting away fans and bricking coaches, no place for it in RL. Over the last 3/4 season I've really started to enjoy the Wigan-Saints derby. Closely fought contests and a cracking atmosphere for the whole game, long may it continue!
Back on topic, I thought our fans were great yesterday, really roared on the boys with passion and I think the players knew that. Anyway, enjoy your day out a Wem-ber-leee

| Had a few beers with Saints fans before game and had beers with Saints fans after the game.
I hate St Helens, they're a biggest rivals, they are our enemy, I love beating them more than any club....
But I'd rather have a beer, banter and Rugby discussion with St Helenser more than any other supporter.
(Oh, and I live with one...)

| Never thought I would say this but I have enjoyed watching Saints this year and think they have some fantastic younger players. Like every other Wigan fan I want to beat them each and every time we play them but that doesn't stop me from having some respect for the way they play and that game yesterday really should have been the final, nothing quite like a Wigan Saints game for me
