| The problem the Latics have is that it's been an artificially boosted 'fanbase' throughout their tenure in the top flight. I have plenty soccer fan mates who use the Wigan games to see their own team but register as Latics fans as they buy their tickets in the Wigan seats. Their fanbase is hardly diehard anyway, save for a couple thousand. The 'glory hunters' never stay around long for mid table mediocrity and I think these two factors are increasingly being seen season on season.
The animosity Whelan has engendered amongst a largely rugby-centric town hasn't done them any favours either! As the saying goes..."turning blue my ar$e!"

| Quote MattyB="MattyB"Disgraceful. I can only wonder how many more 'supporters' will defect should they get relegated..!
I can actually see the power shift yet again with Wigan RL hopefully becoming successful over the next couple of seasons, the crowds will flock. If we can average 16K near the bottom of SL, then I'm sure we can average 18-20K if we were top and winning trophies.'"
Then I guess we are disgraceful aswell. About the same figure watched the Catalans game last year. Disgraceful.

| Not exactly a local derby against a famous and well known club that though is it (which is what I presume Matty meant)

| Quote Conroy="Conroy"Me and my Dad said yesterday at the Latics game that the pitch is going to be f*cked. It's not in the best condition now and over the next two/three weeks will have the following:
Tuesday 2nd - Latics v Notts County
Friday 5th - Wigan v Crusaders
Tuesday 9th - Wigan v Stoke
Friday 12th - Wigan v Hull KR
Tuesday 16th - Latics v Bolton
Add to that a possible replay with Fulham or indeed a QF tie and it will be lucky to still have grass on it (with us of course getting the blame)'"
But in your case Conroy which team is US !!!!
p.s. heard you've signed Moses, is that the MOSES ???

It was a poor crowd against Catalans I'll give you that. However we were forever reminded that the Premier League was the greatest footballing league in the world and that once our blue friends were involved in it then the town 'would turn blue' and the rugby would be as good as finished.
In addition to that it was a local derby against Everton (who filled their end) and a few years ago the fixture would guarantee a 20K+ crowd, but it seems that the floating supporters are picking and choosing their games, i.e. The games against United, Chelsea and Liverpool..!
The fact only 11K home fans turned up yesterday makes a case that perhaps they only attracted a similar season ticket total to ours (9K-10K)???
Anyway, back on topic - I'm sure this snow will be gone by tomorrow hopefully and we can post a good win on Friday. Fingers are crossed as we are notorious slow starters to the beginning of a season.

They don't even Sell Out for these fixtures anymore. The Chelsea game had about 21k and I think the last Manchester United game was around the same. If you can't sell out against two of the biggest clubs in football, you may aswell pack it in and call it a day.

I was talking to a bloke who went with his son, both Wiganers both Everton fans. He reckons there were a lot more Everton fans in his stand because of the lack of shouting for the Latics, including not daring to celebrate Everton's goal nor moaning about their late miss for an equaliser!
This would reduce the home attendance even more.

Yes, it's funny that.
