| Seems like Tim Smith can do nothing right with some people - his range of passing today offered Wigan a different dimension in attack actually guiding players through gaps (I'd forgotten what that was like since Barrett left) and his kicking game wasn't half bad either.
If he can repeat the performance against a better side and leave the turnstile defence at home then I will be more than happy.

| Quote piemandan="piemandan"Same. I actually groaned at that, because I thought he'd done a typical Wigan thing, got his speed up and then offloaded to someone standing still. Turns out he didn't.
'"
Likewise - I thought he'd dropped someone off who was running straight at a defender. It was a great bit of half-back play.

Well he's in the majority of selections of the 'Wigan's best' thread so it can't be that ridiculous.

Same here. Lets just hope that he is not just a flat track bully.

| Theres no doubt in my mind that Smith with ball in hand is the best in the league
We just need his mind on the job and his defence sorted

| I thought Smith looked like a much improved player. His defence on his own looked a bit better but I thought that him being between Gleeson and OLoughlin helped him greatly.
Even though he played next to Bailey when he was at centre previously, Gleeson has the advantage of being able to position himself very well from lots of experience at Centre and very rarely left Smith stranded.
If that style of protecting continues Smith can be a very good attacking threat along side Tomkins (Who I noticed seemed to impose himself more on the game today, maybe more freedom alongside Smith??).
That way we have Smith and Tomkins as very creative Halfbacks and Leuluai and Piggy (who looks to be settling more now) in Dummy Half.

| He can't make a break. Of course his hands are good but he needs another dimension in his game to keep the opposition guessing. Add to that he is Wigan's worst tackler. He is very good at pointing, though.

| What do people think about the team next week? Do you think Nobby can drop Smith?
I think if he is picking players on their last game, he has to remain in the team. The only change i would make is drop Phelps, with Richards to full back and Ainscough coming back in on the wing.

I dont think he needs to take on the line alot to be honest. We saw today how dangerous Tomkins is as a runner and his style can complement Smiths distributing and organising.

Same 17 injuries permitting (think Ainscough will have to come in for Pat though)

Sounds like a good idea.
Tomkins 6
Smith 7
Riddell 9
Leuluai Interchange 9
Sounds like a very creative trio on the pitch at all times. Plus Ainscough and Amos on the wings gives us attacking options on all sides
