It was a school thing – you either liked football or speedway. I'd liked football for years. If you liked football, you were expected to be either red or blue. I picked blue. That was the early '70s. And so it grew.



My father is a Plymouth Argyle fan, but both parents didn't want to encourage a girl to follow football, so it was entirely my 'thing'.



Although once it had become clear that I liked football, he liked to buy me [iShoot[/i and football cards. As something of a tomboy, I think it made him feel I was almost a boy.
