It was raining. I remembered getting soaked but not worrying and i was right ath the front dancing away, sweat pouring off us and all this steam going up in the air. i think that the Pogues were on as well and a really good french band ( cannot remember the name but they did Zoobi la Mouche).
The pogues were great as well. For the first 40 minutes Shane mc Gowan was plaste red, kept falling over could not sing etc. Then after 40 minutes he seemedto recover and they were fantastic

| I remembered the french band Les Negresses Vert a sort of cross of gypsy folk and french two tone.
I cannot remember all the other bands who played but i think New Order played and they were crap. They came on a nd turned some synths on and in remember the keybopard player just walke doff stage and then came back to change the track.
It ws the best festival i have ever been to and not just cos i copped off with Fiona C ( and spent half of saturday morning trying to find the morning after pill )

Reading 89 was as good as it ever got musically, but I suspect you were never there at all. The New Order Friday night slot was absolutely brilliant. They returned in 93 and closed out the Sunday night with another fantastic set.
Pogues were excellent in the rain though! This brings back a few (vague) memories: [urlhttp://www.ukrockfestivals.com/reading-89.html[/url

You are right on that bit. It was a great festival
but I suspect you were never there at all. Oh i was a what agreat time i had. [iThe New Order Friday night slot was absolutely brilliant[/i.
You have lost all music credibility now which is a pity after your first comment. I never liked New Order i was far too politically correct for that. As i have mellowed i really like the rawness of Joy division. As for NO most of the people i went with were NO fans and thay hated them. the woman keyboard player hardly semed ar$ed to do anything. Complete garbage.

Thanks for the link brought back some good memories NMA doing vengeance although not as angry as i remember at some of their gigs they did in Bradford. I was good friends with one of the drummers who played with them for a while.'"
I also remember some of the smaller bands who played Ted Hawkins ( i went out and bought 3 or 4 albums after watching his set. For anyone who likes blues etc he is fantastic. To hell with Burgundy ( a great set but none of their albums lived up to the set). Edward II and the red hot polkas again great set but they seemed to go all over the place on their albums. frank Sidebottom great when you are drunk. Some of the other names i remember but not sure if i saw them at reading or somewhere else.

| Quality thread - still got most of my old tickets from early '80s at Unity Hall. Even got an old badge of that Dutch group 'gruppo sportivo' anybody remember them? Worst 'support band' or 'go to the bar' decision I ever made? Leeds Uni to watch Buzzcocks headlining - depressing support group came on with lead singer doing strange epileptic dancing. Didn't fancy that, headed to bar for unnecessary additional ale and to leer at unattainable female students. The support band? Joy Division...
