Great, great ,great event, I would love to go and more than likely will do one day. I aint played golf for around 18 years, played my first round in that time last week and really enjoyed it. Went out and got myself some gear (clubs, bag, trolley etc), a little impulsive really lol

Surely one of the most complicated games in the world. In tennis you get 4 top male players and they win practically every major. The odds of a worls no.75 to win Wimbledon is about 250/1.

In golf any , and I mean any , top 100 player can win the Open or any of the other majors. The US open and PGA were both won by minor European golfers this year. It is such a difficult game and that is why the Ryder Cup is beyond awesome for me.

Great points in there. One thing I love about watching the majors are that any player amongst 20+ actually have a chance if winning. I think the fact that players like Monty have never won a major demonstrate how much talent exists at any one time.

Luke Donald , Lee Westwood , Jimenez and Poulter were easily Europe's best players and none have won a major. G Mac has obv but only 1 and he's in his early 30s I think. This also shows why Tiger is utterly talented and skillful.

McIlroy is some talent as well at 21. Do like Jimenez though.

Am I right in saying (apart from when you are in a team situation eg Ryder Cup) Golf is a sport that you play for or against yourself???

I've been to two Open's and enjoyed both days would recomend anyone to go if you enjoy sport even if you do not play

Good post. Jimenez is a superb player, his short game is one of the best in the world over the last few years and his laid back attitude means he's never out of it. The only shame is his best form has arrived at the wrong end of his caeer, took a while to get going but has won a few titles last few seasons. Hopefull he'll still be playing at the top of his game in two years time.



McIlroy is some player and you get the feeling once he wins a major they will roll in. Interesting to note G Mac has announced he's playing the PGA Tour next season, I think he might have played out there more often this year if he hadn't been chasing a Ryder Cup spot, good luck to him and I hope he brings home many more titles.









You don't play against yourself but yes unless you're in a team event like the Ryder Cup then you are playing for yourself.

Can't fault you for wanting to take in the live atmosphere but the Ryder Cup is definitely TV viewing for me.

Like other posters watched every minute on the box.

No way would you be able to keep up with all the twist and turns stood out on the course.

My thoughts exactly, however, I would love to be there one year just to feel the atmosphere and to experience the Ryder Cup in person.

think I'm right in saying they have big screens set up around the course so that you can see what's happening elsewhere.
