| I would like to see the end of one thing the magic weekend and have it replaced with an international game, thats one thing for me is that we dont have enough international games.
And FWIW i would hate to see contested scrums come back its one of the main reasons i dont watch union because watching a scrum for 2minitues is just so boring, i think non contested scrums works well so if it aint broke dont fix it.

| On the subject of contested scrums: yes they got to the stage of farce but I was officiating at the time of contested scrums and shortly before their demise, we managed to get something like a clean scrum. This came about after we were instructed to clamp down on how and exactly when the scrum was formed. If hookers & scrum halves persistently offended, they were sin-binned.
It ook a little time for coaches and players to get the message but just as we got on top of the problem we were instructed to back off. I have no doubt that was as a result of pressure from Australia, who as has already been pointed out, were pretty dire in the scrummaging stakes.
The reason we have retained scrums is simply as a different method of recycling the ball after a stoppage. By taking 12 players out of the equation, you effectively force teams to find a different play. That wouldn't happen with tap re-starts

E.G a problem has been sorted but they then remove it anyway.
All I remember is that the scrums where a real ball ache at times.

| The only thing I would change about scrums is that the players who form the scrum when they are trying to stop the clock have to stay in the scrum.

agree 100%, if you "form" the scrum then you bloody well FORM the subsequent scrum!

| I loved scrummaging myself and in some respects think it is one of the aspects of the game that I miss. However given that one team has transgressed/made a mistake is it fair that the non offending team (as it were) still have to battle for possession of the ball?
Policing of the offside at scrums disappeared years ago and one of the reasons to keep the scrum is to tie up those numbers so there is more space for the backs to penetrate. The modern day scrum farce just doesn't allow that, the players barely pack down (because they dont have to push for one thing) the loose man is exactly that & never packs down properly..period. And before the ball even reaches the LF the defense is already level with the scrum anyway so direct attacks are snuffed out with relative ease on the first tackle. Okay so it brings into play the chip over the top or longer kick but how often do we see that?
Train up the touch judges so they know what a forward pass is (& the offside rule whilst they're at it) TJ's should call forward passes that are just that, if we have 20 in a game then so what, Leeds & Saints will soon get the idea that the TJ will inform the ref & will stop pushing the envelope past its legal limit.
Two feet behind the line when the attacking team is within 10m of the try line should mean two feet behind the line. Just a joke of a rule as it is never policed.
Shoulder barging, get rid. No skill in it, dangerous, uncontrolled, doesn't always stop the attacking player from continuing forward progression or offloading anyway. Just tackle the man properly FFS.
Clamp down on use of neck area to bring players down in the tackle.
More 8 pointers, how many times have players been fouled after a try has been scored with knees to the head/body or late challanges etc and the ref does naff all. 2 extra points under the sticks every time & it would cut down the needless afters.
