They might choose to for regular 1st team rugby. Neither are the right type of player to have on the bench and neither are 1st choice in any of the positions 1-13. We had the same debate about Whiting last year. Yes we'll pick up injuries and yes they'll both play a fair amount of games but at the same time both would be 1st choice in a Widnes side for example. Depends what they want to do.

Dowes, Washbrook and Horne should go IMO and keep Turner and Whiting. A prop and a quality HB would then be about all we'd need if we keep everybody else.

Anyway, i think Gleeson is a cracking signing.

It's different if he [ichoose[/is to leave for a starting position at 13. But we'd be idiots not to try and retain him given his versatility and consistency. Every club needs cover for a range of positions and they don't come any better than Whiting in that regard.

I like Rich Whiting and believe that he should be our first choice 13 by now. We've messed him about frankly and I agree entirely that he owes it to himself to find a club that will allow him to test himself in his proper position before it's too late. I'd love him to get the chance here but I can't see it happening so I'd be delighted if he found another club and really interested to see how he went.

In my opinion Whiting has been in the wrong places at the wrong times. I would have loved to have seen him have the chance to establich himself in a particular position, such as the centre berth this year, but I'm afraid I can't see it happening now. There is some real class in the team now in his preferred positions (e.g. centre, second row, loose man) and some experience as well as real raw talent in the ones where he can stand in (e.g. full-back, winger). So he will now, as far as I can see, remain a bit-part player. The one circumstance where I can see this changing is (apart from injury) if Agar decides to play him at full-back and move Phelps to Gleeson's wing. I think this unlikely and he might have to leave to fulfil his potential at another club - a sad day if he leaves us but a good day for a club like Widnes who will need bodies.

He's way too good to be playing for the promoted team. Hopefully, if he goes, he'll get picked up by Leeds (someone mentioned a rumour earlier), or someone like Huddersfield.

Either of those would be an excellent move for him.



Does it tell you how good our squad is when we might not be able to find a place for a player that Leeds might be interested in? Or is Whiting better than any other first-pick individual in the team and Agar has got it wrong?
