Doncaster have already gone bust once whilst chasing a Superleague license, they were fortunate enough to get some new investors and now they've gone and done it again, twice in the space of a couple of years.
What will cause the most all round damage both on the field and in the press, Donny going bust again or Celtic going bust?
Quote Eye of the viking="odemwingie"We have been discussing this on thw Wigan forum, here are my quotes.
I agree, we should be making rugby league strongest in its strongest areas before we expand really. The expansion would work better.
Why, Celtic have been given the super league club because of location and no other reason where as people at Widnes and and Fax have been working sloid for many years trying to make the clubs fit for super league. People would laugh at a bid for super league fomr Celtic if they were in Yorkshire.
IMO Fax and Widnes would add alot more than Salford and Celtic in terms of crowds, away support, stadia, players through academy and general bringing back some of whats good about rugby league. It would mean loads more derbies and sell-outs. Then after that look to bring other teams in, but if rugby league is not at its best in the areas its already being played, what chance does it have where RU is the favoured game.
As you can see I am on your side. I could go on about it forever, its a outrage IMO.'"
Theres already 11 heartlands clubs in a Superleague of 14 teams how much stronger do you want them? First it will be "include Fax and Wdines at the expense of any expansion teams" then it will be "still not strong enough in the heartlands, Leigh and Featherstone sare saying they want in, then we can expand". Before you know it we'll have a Superleague of 16 heartlands teams and we wont have enough Sky money to expand the competition further to include non-heartlands clubs. Just how would it make it easier to expand into new areas?
Im sorry but not every heartlands club can be in Superleague, somebody is going to have to be left out. Lewis and co have had to bite the bullet and make some tough choices to prevent the game from going into stagnation and get a better t.v deal.
I personally think Widnes should and will be included come 2012, but IMO it will be at the expense of another heartlands club whose new stadium hasn't been built. Theres going to be wailing and gnashing of teeth from some people but at the end of the day it has to be done.
