Championship One leaders Toronto Wolfpack welcomed the league fourteenth placed side Coventry Bears to the Lamport Stadium, with the part-timers looking for their second win of the season in their ninth outing, having only previously won at home against Oxford.

Most pundits believe that it was just a matter of how many Toronto would win by, and whether they would be able to keep the visitors scoreless in the Toronto sunshine.

Coventry held strong for nine minutes but after intense pressure on the Bears line, Andrew Dixon went from acting half-back to spin over the line. Craig Hall pushed his conversion wide. Three minutes later and Liam Kay followed him over off a Jonathan Pownall miss-out pass. Hall missed the conversion attempt but the Wolfpack were 8-0 ahead.

Coventry opened their account on twenty-three when Jamahl Hunte picked up a grubber kick by second-rower Chris Bennett to score in the corner. The conversion attempt was wide of the sticks but so far the Bears were giving a good account of themselves.

Toronto bust the line again on thirty-two when Bob Beswick hit the line off a Craig Hall pass to ground next to the left upright. Hall managed to kick the conversion from in front of the sticks for 14-4.

Two minutes later and a three man overlap allowed Dixon to grab his second of the afternoon as the Coventry defence started to tire. Hall was unsuccessful with the boot.

On thirty-seven Ryan Brierley took a suspicious looking forward pass from Richard Whiting to walk the last three metres to score. Hall kicked the two for 24-4, and fitness in the heat was the telling factor.

A last minute penalty allowed Brad Delaney to extend the Bears score to six points, trailing the Wolfpack by eighteen at the interval.

Three minutes after the restart and Rhys Jacks was at the end of a sixty metre passing to walk over under the sticks. Hall added the goal for 30-6.

Just two more minutes passed before Beswick put Kay through a gap to score from twenty metres. Hall was accurate with the boot and despite a bright start, Coventry were now buckling under pressu, but on forty-nine a kick by Billy Gaylor was picked up and grounded by Delaney for the second Coventry try. Delaney added the two for 36-12.

Liam Kay completed his hat-trick on fifty-five when Sean Penkywicz picked up the ball from dummy half and threw a looping pass for Kay to go over in the corner. Hall kicked from the touchline for 42-12.

Fuifui Moimoi joined the Wolfpack party on the hour mark when he pushed through the Bears defensive line and Hall added the conversion. It was becoming all too easy for the home side and when Hall added another penalty the Wolfpack had brought up the fifty.

Moimoi grabbed his second with two minutes remaining when he took a Sidlow pass and went ten metres to score giving Hall a simple conversion for 56-12.

Despite putting up a decent defence in the opening twenty, and grabbing a couple of tries, Coventry Bears were the latest victims of another very professional Toronto performance which saw them run in ten tries. Toronto are now back two points clear at the top of the table, and have passed through the 500 points barrier in just nine games.
